The awesome Jaz over at Travels in Fiction tagged me in this fun book tag that is 100% me. I went a few years without reading much, so the number of things I feel like I’ve missed out on and am trying to catch up with is unreal! You can see Jaz’s post here, and it’s a good one, you should check it out. The tag was originally created by Beth over at Books Nest, who is also totally awesome, and I highly suggest you should check that out too.

1. A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read

I’ve been so out of the loop, that there are so many books I could list here. Some people on one of the Discord servers I’m part of (sorry, there’s a few now and I can’t think which one!) have been pushing me to read Vicious by V. E. Schwab, but I just read A Darker Shade of Magic (review to come!) and wasn’t enamoured with it, so I’m not sure how quickly I’m going to read Vicious.

2. A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t picked it up

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. I loved the first film, and I’ve heard that the books are a thousand times better, so I really should’ve given them a go by now, and yet, here we are, with me never even having touched a Percy Jackson book, let alone bought or read one. Now that this has reminded me, maybe I’ll add it to my TBR for April. We’ll see if that actually happens, or if it’ll remain one of those books forevermore!

3. A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten round to finishing yet

Did you mean every series I’ve ever started? I’m a nightmare for starting a series and never finishing it. There’s so many series coming to mind here, I’m not even sure where to begin. I’m sure people will be like ??? with a few of these!

The Shadow and Bone Trilogy – I’ve only read the first one, and whilst I enjoyed it, I didn’t like it enough to immediately seek out the next book.

Newsflesh Series – I absolutely love the first book. It went straight on my Favourites shelf and has been there ever since, and yet, I’ve never read on. I’ve got this fear that the 2nd book won’t live up to the first, and therefore I haven’t read it so I’m not disappointed!

Throne of Glass Series – I had fun reading the first book, or at least, I assume I did, because I rated it high enough when I read it. However, I’ve got no memory of it now, and if I want to carry on with the series, I’ll have to reread the first book. There are so many new books out all the time, how am I supposed to find time for a reread?

That’s just a few of the many. I’m a nightmare for starting a series and never finishing it.

4. A classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but never actually read

There are so many classics I’ve wanted to read and never gotten around to. The language has always scared me a little. I read Dracula, and it took me forever to get through because I had to slow down a lot to really take in and stew on the language to make sure I understood everything. Following the same sort of thing, I’d love to read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I’ve enjoyed the story of Dr. Frankenstein and his monster, so I think it’d be good to read the original.

5. A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read

I’ve been doing a lot in the way of catching up with popular books recently, but the Six of Crows Duology is still one I’m yet to read. I mostly want to read this just so I understand what’s going on when people talk about Inej, Kaz and whoever else I’ve seen mentioned and didn’t realise was in this series. The thing is, I’ve heard you should finish the Shadow and Bone books first, and that’s not something I’m in a rush to do, so I’m not sure whether to skip them or to push through them to get to this.

6. A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but you just haven’t read it yet

My mind’s gone completely blank. You’ve got Percy Jackson, but I mentioned that above… Ooh, perhaps American Gods. Admittedly, I haven’t even finished the first season of it, but the first couple of episodes I did watch, I really enjoyed. I’ve got the massive paperback sat on my shelf waiting for me, but when I see the size of it, I tend to go for something else!

7. A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet

Like Jaz, I’ll have to go for The Priory of the Orange Tree. Although a few months ago, it was The Wicked King by Holly Black, so in the interests of saying something different, I’ll go for that. Obviously, I’d need to start with The Cruel Prince first, but it’s a series I am interested in getting around to at some point in the future.

So, that’s that! My challenge now is to come up with people to tag. I’ve just tagged those that are interested!

You! If you want to do it too!

Are there any books you should’ve definitely read by now and haven’t gotten around to?
